The Window Project

This project explores issues and possible solutions for interiors that lack windows. Windowless spaces are detrimental to our health, affecting people in many scenarios. While artificial light can increasingly replicate some of the benefits of natural light, the light that comes through a window tends to feel more comforting.

My prototypes are designed to evoke windows and some of their health benefits.
Some mimic traditional window treatments, for a sense of familiarity and a peripheral cue.
These can also be engineered as smart windows, for tunable light throughout the day.
Other concepts are more abstract, drawing attention to the lack of a window rather than disguising it.
These are designed to generate awareness and incorporate functionality like a timer that periodically reminds the user to take a break and possibly step outside for some natural light and improved well-being.
